Ammoudi Oias
The port is located in Ammoudi bay. Administratively, it belongs to the Municipal Unit of Oia, Municipality of Thira, Regional Unit of Thira, South Aegean Region.
The Port of Ormou Ammoudi is the port of Thira through which the transport and commercial needs of Thirasia are met, since from there there are scheduled and cargo ships that connect Thira with Thirasia. At the same time, it is also the port of Oia. Therefore, it is of particular importance for the local economy, both of Oia and Thirasia. In addition, in Limenas it is possible to service fishing boats, and it is customary to anchor them in the sea. In addition, since 2014, the transportation of cruise passengers from Fira Bay to Ammoudi Bay has been started through lances, increasing its importance for the local economy.
The port does not have any protective pier or breakwater, as the great depths of the sea make the construction of any protective work prohibitive. This results in the port being exposed to both W-NW and S-SW winds
The port includes:
-Wharf to which the scheduled ships operating the Thira - Thirasia route as well as lances that transport cruise passengers from the bay of Fira to the bay of Ammoudi with a total length of 30 meters moor.
-20 meter long pier used by fishing boats to moor.
-Reservoir wall in the remaining part of it, with a total length of 200 meters.
-Boat lifting and launching ramp
The eastern part of the Bay of approximately 8 acres is used for anchoring fishing boats (maximum number of 30 boats) in the sea.
The port does not have any protective structure from the weather conditions and therefore there is no clearly defined port basin. In any case, the total area of the bay does not exceed 15 acres.
The total length of the piers and wharves along the coast is 250m.
